If summoned within 338 tiles of the westernmost or easternmost edges of a world (the same requirements necessary for an Ocean biome to exist), Duke Fishron can also be summoned by fishing in lava or honey. However, a world must be in Hardmode in order to obtain the Truffle Worms used to summon him. Summoning Duke Fishron does not require any other boss to have been defeated beforehand, and he can be summoned in a pre-Hardmode world by bringing a Truffle Worm from a Hardmode world. Duke Fishron is completely invulnerable during his summoning animation. Once the bobber bobs, reeling in the line spawns Duke Fishron, who emerges from the water, pauses for a moment, and then begins attacking the player. The Truffle Worm is a rare critter that must be caught with the Bug Net, Golden Bug Net, or Lavaproof Bug Net in an underground Glowing Mushroom biome. Fighting Duke Fishron is completely optional and not required for game progression, but his defeat will reward the player with powerful weapons. Some players may challenge him with post- mechanical bosses gear, but most players may want to wait until post- Golem to battle him. While he can be summoned as soon as Hardmode is initiated, he can pose a serious threat to new or underprepared players and should be fought later on in the game.
